“In the monographic catalogue titled ‘Cash & Copy’, the artist Alekos Hofstetter, a resident of Berlin, demonstrates that within the current status quo of painting the portraiture of one’s own realities and material worlds as well as the handling of preexisting graphic material can lead into independent perceptions regarding the phenomena of reality. In this manner, Hofstetter’s pictorial strategy no longer merely exemplifies the chosen mass-media source material as a stimulation or main source. It is no longer even a sufficient motive for a picture. Rather, the material is turned into its primary reason and primary object, even being transormed into the theme itself. Irrespective of the context, significance is ascribed through the artist’s process of selection, highlighting, and transformation.” (Lith Bahlmann)
